When do the 2026 NDIS amendments commence?
The Act commenced in stages. Sections 1 to 4, Schedule 5 and the Act's own review began on 20 August 2026. Most of Schedules 1 to 4 began on 27 August 2026. Further dates are 1 October 2026, 20 November 2026, 1 December 2026, 1 February 2027, 20 February 2027, 1 July 2027 and 1 January 2028.
Why is 1 February 2027 the key date?
Schedule 1 Parts 5 and 6 commence on that day. Part 5 makes an old framework plan renew automatically on its end date, with one off funding removed and no new statement of supports. Part 6 rewrites the reasonable and necessary supports test, adds the other scheme exclusion, and fixes the order in which evidence of effectiveness is weighed. Both change how provider revenue is set for existing participants.
Which provisions are already live?
Schedule 1 Parts 1 to 3, all of Schedule 2 Parts 1 to 4 and 7, Schedule 2 Part 9, Schedule 3 Parts 1 to 3, and Schedule 4 began on 27 August 2026. Schedule 1 Parts 4 and 7 and Schedule 3 Part 5 for debt notices later. The record on this site lists each provision and its date.
Which provisions have no fixed date?
Schedule 2 Part 6, on registered plan management providers, commences on a day fixed by Proclamation. If no day is fixed within 24 months of Assent, it commences on the first day of the next calendar month after that period, which this record calculates as 1 September 2028. The table leaves column 3 blank, so that date is a fallback calculation, not a date the Act states.
What about the compensation and access changes?
Schedule 1 Parts 8 and 9 commence on 1 January 2028. Those Parts tighten the meaning of permanence, require appropriate treatment to have been undertaken, and exclude impairments caused by a motor accident or a work injury where a compensation law provides. They are the provisions an insurer should diarise furthest out.
